Old School Tow-ins…

April 8, 2011

Hows this for a great new division for our Longboard contest? Karl and I decided we needed a bit more speed getting into the waves on a small day at pipe. So we used the surf school SUP to give us a bit more whip on the take off. Looks easy but takes a lot of co-ordination from both parties. We plan on doing some more of this, possibly at Dungeons…

(Listen out for Daniel, our filmer, as he gives his creepy laugh at the end of  clip.)

Air time!

March 15, 2011

This is one of my students David Burrows who is 11yrs old doing an air at Strand the other day. Crazy thing is the first time i did an air i was probably 14yrs old. So this kids gonna be flying high with many  years still to go.

Quiver?

No this is not a surf shop or a shapers factory….. This is professional surfer, Taj Burrows’ surfboard shed at his Australian home. Which means he probably has another shed like this at his Balinese home and other sheds wherever else he has a home.

I remember wishing as a grom that a pro surfer would give me one of his boards. I think Taj could give one board away every week of the year and not even blink. Imagine how many people he could bless… Maybe he does give his old boards away or he’s not allowed to. If it was me I reckon all my friends would get my old boards and they’d be stoked.

Try this one out at the gym during rush hour.

I got this pic from  big wave surfer, Mark Visser’s site. http://markvisser.net

I haven’t tried it yet but maybe later this year.

RESOLVE

February 7, 2011

NEW LOGO

A new year always brings… New Years Resolutions. Every year I produce Goals for the year, which are fairly similar to resolutions. They tend to last for a couple of weeks, days, hours or minutes. Why are we so bad at actually sticking to them? Do we really mean them when we think them out or are we just doing what is culturally correct at the time? Most times our resolutions are centred around ourselves! Goals to help me be, look, feel, seam and smell better. But then the world doesn’t revolve around us, does it?

So what the heck does RESOLVE mean?

1. to come to a definite or earnest decision about…

2. determine (to do something)

3. to change, alter, or appear to change or alter

And why is it on your surfboard?

1. I want to be reminded of my purpose

2. I forget

3. People are gonna ask

Change is possible, but not always easy. Jesus wants us to constantly be changing to be more like him. Of course we will never be totally like him but we can improve from year to year. Christians, little-Christs. So a help is to have goals and resolutions.

So this year I’m trying my best to actually stick to my resolutions. And I don’t want them to be just yearly resolutions but Lifetime resolutions. I want to be RESOLVED to run hard after them. And it’s not about me ticking off my goals and feeling good about myself. Yippee, well done to me! No, my resolutions and goals must glorify God. Do your resolutions Glorify Christ? If not then what the heck are they? I would say that they are of no significance.

Our lives are short and in the great scheme of eternity, are but a blink of an eye.  We have the opportunity to play life or live it with purpose! So whether its working, studying, teaching, gyming or playing sport. Lets do it all to Glorify the Lord! Lets resolve to Glorify Jesus Christ.

This can only be done sustainably and authentically through the strength of the Holy Spirit. It’s not our strength and determination we are falling back on. We must daily ask for the help of the Holy Spirit.

Pump out those goals for the year and Resolutions for life.

This is what happens when you have too many surfboards in your board-rack.  Just before Christmas I heard a loud crash when working in the garden. I was hoping it was the next door neighbors… But this is what I found. Lots of dings and worst of all, my favourite little 5’4 fish creased.

Bali Barrel Video

January 15, 2011

I got the Bali footage from my friend Joey and its amazingly good quality. He made a 20 min video on our Bali trip, which he edited all himself. Let me know if you want a copy and I can organise you one. Here is one wave from the video for you to see…

The VST or Video Surf Tour on thebombsurf.com has sucked me in again.

I put one last video on there to try win R1000 for Holiday spending.

So watch it…. please. And if you watch the other blokes vid, then it doesn’t help. The rules are crap I know!

Its about the company

August 23, 2010

We surfed small, messy and very cold waves today. I was struck by how I could be having so much fun even though the waves were so terrible. I realised that it was the guys I was surfing with. I’d directed the same hoots, ooh’s and aah’s at cooking waves in Indo, as I was using here in rubbish conditions. But it was with the same guy! Ollie you are a legend and always a joy to surf with! Thanks for your positive outlook on life and the stoke you spread. I’ll always surf with you even if its looking indifferent. You da man!

This is Ollie, Me and Derek after our sickest session ever(No. 100). Too stoked!!! Shot guys!

So its back to the real world, where you surf below average waves everyday… But its home and you can’t beat it. No matter how good the waves are in Bali, the Helderberg will always be home.

Waves come and go but home stays the same, relatively. Its great to have family and friends to do life with. Thanks people, I appreciatte you all.

Thank you Jesus!!!
