Once you can successfully land normal airs, its time to start spinning. The air reverse is a 180 air, landing with your tail to the beach, then spinning another 180 on the foam. Here are some attempted air- reverses. I grab for stability but my biggest mistake is not swivling my head to help with the rotation. I was also landing on my tail. I should have been landing with my board flat or with the tail slightly higher than the nose. The best is to land on your to-side rail and the board will catch nicely and spin you around.

Keys:

  • Speed
  • Timing
  • Grab for stability
  • Swivle head for rotation
  • Land on toe-side rail

Go find those sectons and try em out.

This is not a cool air!
It might look good and exciting to the untrained eye, but it sucks! Your tail must always be the highest part of your board when doing an air. So these are lame! They happen when you miss time your launch or try force the air. Its all about timing and flow!

So we’ve done a small air. Now here’s the launch!!

Keys:

  • Lotsa speed
  • A launch pad
  • Good timing
  • Staying light on your feet
  • Throwing your arms up as you launch
  • A grab for control and centreing yourself
  • Soft landing
  • Compression as you land

These feel a lot higher than they look. You actually feel twice as high!

You need some foam to land on otherwise you will land hard and crease your board and hurt your ankles. A first just try to get high in the air with some control. You can always throw your board away just before you land. Good luck with these and try not to hurt yourself.

So here is the 1st of 6 videos for you to better understand airs and how to do them.
The clips are nice and short so it doesn’t eat your cap.
To do any air you need speed! The more the better.

  • Don’t bottom-turn too steeply, it should be fairly flat.
  • This small air is basically and extended off the lip.
  • As you hit the lip unweight yourself, staying centred over your board.
  • Try to bring your knees and board up towards yourself.
  • Try keep your tail higher than your nose at all times.

These are not easy and require perfect timing. Too early and there’s no lip to launch from. Too late and your board gets taken by foam. Trial and error. Don’t be scared to experiment.

Good Luck!
